Citroen C8 gets new look and more power
Citroën's award-winning executive MPV, the popular C8, is celebrating a fresh start to the New Year with a style update to the whole range. As of January 2008, the C8 boasts a new 2.2 HDi engine on its SX and Exclusive models, as well as a choice of two new metallic colours.

The new 2.2 HDi engine offers 173 hp, and a massive 295 lb.ft of torque for effortless performance, with a top speed of 122 mph, 0 - 62 mph in 11.7 seconds and an out-of-town fuel consumption of 42.8 mpg.

The restyle incorporates the chevrons at the front and rear, bringing them in line with other models in the Citroën family, as well as a new-look grille, additional exterior chrome inserts, plus dark tinted windows and tailgate on Exclusive models.

Citroën has extended the style treatment to the interior too, with enhanced materials, soft-touch finishes and further chrome inserts for a polished look. Exclusive models also benefit from 16" Ispahan alloy wheels, leather seats as standard and front and rear parking sensors. Whilst SX models gain new seat trims, a leather steering wheel and gear lever knob, speed limiter and Cruise Control. LX models now boast an MP3 compatible stereo unit.
Citroen green car manufacturer of the year for 2nd year
For the second year running Citroen has been named 'Car Manufacturer of The Year' at the GreenFleet Awards, ahead of fierce competition from runners-up Toyota and Honda.

Specifically commended for its "continuing moves to reduce the environmental impact of its vehicles", Citroen was also named runner-up in both the 'Green Marketing Campaign of the Year' category, for its TV advertisements, and in the 'LCV Manufacturer of the Year' category.

The award comes just as the Company prepares to unveil three new vehicles at the Frankfurt Motor show, all incorporating major new Green initiatives. The C-Cactus concept features a diesel hybrid drivetrain and is able to achieve almost 100mpg on the combined cycle, the C5 Airscape is equipped with an Urban Hybrid system, while the C4 BioFlex can run on E85 Bioethanol.

But it is for the range of cars that UK motorists can buy today that Citroen has again won this award, and there are numerous reasons for its GreenFleet accolade. Today the Company offers one of the most fuel efficient and lowest CO2 emitting product ranges around - over 40% of the Company's sales are diesel, with ultra-clean Diesel Particulate Filter Systems widely available. Importantly, the environmental benefits of these models are available at affordable prices.

No fewer than three of the top ten lowest CO2-emitting diesel cars on sale in the UK are Citroens, while fuel-saving Stop & Start technology is available on C2 and C3 models. The Company has over 20 models with CO2 emissions of 120 g/km or less, including one of the only family cars to fall into this category - the C4. The new C-Crosser SUV is capable of almost 40mpg whilst a low 175 g/km CO2 version of the executive C6 is also offered.

The GreenFleet Awards are designed to promote ways of reducing emissions and of increasing awareness, among those responsible for transport procurement, about making greener fuel and vehicle decisions. The Awards were judged by representatives from the Institute of Car Fleet Management, The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and GreenFleet magazine, the only publication dedicated to environmental fleet management.
New Citroen concept car - C5 Airscape
Citroën will reveal its head-turning C5 Airscape concept car to the world at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show. Featuring a carbon-fibre folding roof, striking styling and crammed with innovative technology, much of which is designed to minimise its impact on the environment, this all-new design provides a fresh take on the world of executive cabriolets.

The high waistline, ribbed panels, C6-style concave rear window and sleek, aerodynamic profile help to communicate the Citroën C5 Airscape's exclusive status, while the distinctive exterior design is further enhanced by the 19-inch alloys, large air-intakes, twin chrome tailpipes and long incisive headlamps.

Without question, one of the 4-seater C5 Airscape's defining characteristics is the automatically foldingtop. Complete with integrated sunroof and textile lining, this carbon-fibre roof resembles a canvas one, a feature so suggestive of up-market cabriolets.

It opens to reveal a sumptuous interior of dark-brown leather and chrome, reflecting the refined and sophisticated nature of the car. The clean, sculpted lines of the dashboard sit alongside the stylish design of the instrument cluster and air vents, while Citroën's concept is also equipped with a new-style fixed centred controls steering wheel, incorporating touch-sensitive buttons enveloped in a thin membrane-like covering.

The latest in a line of green Citroën concepts, the C5 Airscape showcases important and innovative technology. Fuel economy is managed by an 'UrbanHybrid' system that includes a reversible alternator-starter and super capacitors. This system allows onboard equipment, such as the air conditioning or audio system, to be powered by energy recovered during braking and deceleration, while engine torque can be temporarily boosted when required.

The 'UrbanHybrid' system, which helps reduce CO2 emissions by 24g/km on the combined cycle, also switches off the engine when the vehicle is at standstill, before starting it again instantly once the accelerator is pressed. The fitting of a refined, bio-diesel compliant 208bhp 2.7HDi V6 engine, complete with particulate filter, further minimises any impact on the environment.

Helping the C5 Airscape to deliver levels of performance similar to those of a four-wheel drive car, a further technological advancement sees the introduction of a new 'Snow Motion' traction control system that provides enhanced driving safety in low-grip conditions.
Citroens new 5-seat C4 Picasso
Citroen's new five seat C4 Picasso is distinctively different from both its five seat competitors and its seven seat stable mate, the Grand C4 Picasso. Now on sale in the UK, the C4 Picasso is not only arguably the most attractive compact MPV on the market, but it also benefits from the lightest, most spacious interior in its sector as well as the latest cutting-edge technology.

Citroen's designers have taken the award-winning Grand C4 Picasso and created a five seat compact MPV that is refreshingly individual, combining a dynamic new styling, featuring re-designed front and rear ends, with exceptional levels of comfort, a highly practical interior seating lay-out and even an all-new version of the versatile
Modubox folding trolley.

As well as offering superb all-round visibility and an extremely light and airy interior, this latest Citroen is packed full of firsts for the five seat compact MPV sector. A parking space measurement system, Hill Start Assist, automatic electric parking brake, air quality sensor, scented air freshener, Lane Departure Warning System, self-levelling suspension and paddleshift gearchange are all available, many as standard.

In the hugely competitive compact MPV market, which accounts for one in ten new car sales, the arrival of the five seat C4 Picasso means that Citroen is the only manufacturer to offer three different compact MPVs, with the new model sitting between the hugely successful Xsara Picasso and the seven seat Grand C4 Picasso. In addition, with its C8 full-size people carrier and versatile Berlingo Multispace budget MPV, Citroen offers arguably the most complete range of MPVs around.

Dynamic and visually arresting, the C4 Picasso's powerful yet elegant new front end combines smart chrome chevrons with a completely re-designed bumper section that incorporates air intakes covered in a sporty black mesh. The signature wave-shaped waistline can be highlighted in chrome and, rounding off the eye-catching side profile, can be complemented by a range of stylish 16, 17 and 18 inch alloy wheels.

The rear of the car is where the C4 Picasso really stands apart from the seven seat model, presenting its own individual personality. The rear windows wrap around the pillars, above the unique horizontal design of the rear lights, to give a virtually uninterrupted all-glass look to the upper half of the vehicle.

On the inside the feeling of space in the front is accentuated by the deliberately simple design of the dash. Many of the usual buttons are cleverly incorporated into the
C4 Picasso's innovative fixed centred controls steering wheel, while individual controls for the vents and air conditioning are conveniently positioned at either end of the dash.

Freeing up even more space, the handbrake is replaced by an automatic electric parking brake and the traditional gear lever, on models with the electronic gearbox system, is replaced by a paddleshift gearchange and mode selector stalk.

The C4 Picasso is particularly remarkable for the vast expanse of glass that surrounds it, creating a light and bright environment for all onboard. The wide angle panoramic windscreen is the biggest in the class and rises up and over the heads of the front seat occupants, providing a field of vision that is double that of a standard MPV.

The slim design of the windscreen pillars combines with the large quarter light windows and panoramic windscreen to ensure that the C4 Picasso offers the best driver's visibility of any five seat compact MPV. Assisted by the kinked wave in the waistline the C4 Picasso also offers rear passengers the best visibility in the sector, while the huge optional panoramic sunroof allows even more light to pour in from above.

Artificial light also has a key role to play, with the availability of up to 30 different light sources onboard. These range from an innovative rechargeable boot light that doubles as a hand-held torch to subtle strip lighting in the doors, headlining and dash. There are door bins that are automatically illuminated when a hand is placed inside and door mirrors housing welcome lights, which bathe the ground with light when approaching the vehicle at night.

Passengers in the rear row benefit from three individual, full size, sliding and tilting seats - a rarity in this sector - as well as a flat floor and class-leading knee and elbow room. The inventive seat design allows the rear seats to be quickly and easily folded flat by pulling on the straps at the side of the seat base, all without removing the
head restraints.

With all five seats in place, Citroen's new compact MPV heads the category with up to 605 litres of boot space underneath the luggage cover. This extends to a maximum 1,734 litres to the roof when the rear seats are folded flat.

To enhance practicality, Citroen has created a completely new version of its unique Modubox removable trolley especially for the C4 Picasso. Introduced in its original form on the Xsara Picasso, this new folding, wheeled trolley comes with a soft canvas bag, which can be insulated, making it easier to divide boot space and to transport objects away from the vehicle. Citroen's designers have made use of almost every possible space in the
C4 Picasso, sculpting a number of innovative storage compartments to hide everyday belongings. A large capacity 'coolbox' sits in the centre of the dash on models with the electronic gearbox system, there are two large compartments on top of the dash and hidden cubby holes under the floor in the second row to name but a few.

With air conditioning standard on most models, and with individual air-flow controls in the second row, occupants will be able to enjoy perfect travelling conditions whatever the weather. Particularly useful for short stops on hot days, a 'rest' function allows the air conditioning to continue to operate after the engine is switched off.

Adding to the exceptional levels of comfort, the C4 Picasso can be equipped with an air quality sensor that monitors the levels of outdoor pollution and will automatically switch the airflow to 'recycle' if high levels of pollutants are detected. A built-in air freshener with a choice of scents, which include a new tobacco-neutralising fragrance, is
also available.

Positively brimming with neat touches, the C4 Picasso can be specified with aircraft-style trays on the back of the front seats, which can conceal integrated reading lights or video screens for the DVD player. All models feature a clever sun visor system on the panoramic windscreen, incorporating a sliding blind and flip-down visor to protect the front seat occupants from sun glare, as well as an automatic fuel flap.

A number of innovative features have been introduced, each designed to make the driving experience safe and stress-free. A parking space measurement system allows drivers to locate a space when parallel parking, and is the first such system on the market, while the standard fitment of Hill Start Assist eases pulling away when driving off on a slope.

The long list of equipment on offer also includes front and rear parking sensors, cruise control and speed limiter, a high quality hi-fi system developed with Philips, and a NaviDrive colour satellite navigation system with built-in telephone and voice recognition facility.

Safety is a key fundamental for Citroen and the C4 Picasso benefits from being built on the same platform as the Grand C4 Picasso, which achieved a maximum five star adult occupant protection rating from EuroNCAP. ABS with EBD and EBA, ESP with traction control and seven airbags are standard on all models, while a Lane Departure Warning System and Xenon dual-function directional headlamps are also available.

To increase its family appeal the C4 Picasso offers further safety features such as a child mirror in the front, four Isofix seats, anti-pinch functions on the windows, an electric child lock system and five audible and visual seatbelt warning indicators.

The security of the vehicle and its contents has not been neglected, so to increase peace of mind the C4 Picasso is the only five seat compact MPV to offer laminated side windows, while an alarm, remote control central locking with deadlocks and automatic locking of the vehicle when in motion are also available.

Providing an optimum balance between road holding and ride comfort, the new
C4 Picasso features a redesigned running gear to take into account the needs of a five seat people carrier, as well as the availability of pneumatic rear suspension. This self-levelling suspension, available on top end models, benefits handling and safety by maintaining a constant ride height, regardless of load. It also allows the height of the rear sill to be raised or lowered independently for easier loading.

Depending on the model selected, buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual transmission, or Citroen's advanced new 6-speed electronic gearbox system. With the option of manually-operated paddleshift gearchange or an automatic mode, this hi-tech system is exceptionally easy to use and offers lower fuel consumption.

The new C4 Picasso range is powered by a choice of four engines: 127hp 1.8i 16V and 143hp 2.0i 16V petrol units, as well as 110hp 1.6HDi and 138hp 2.0HDi diesel powerplants. Both diesel engines are fitted with Diesel Particulate Filter Systems and return CO2 emissions as low as 150g/km. Fuel economy for all four versions is impressive - the 1.6HDi is capable of returning around 50mpg on the combined cycle.

Xavier Duchemin, managing director at Citroen UK, said: Citroen now offers UK new car buyers the widest ever choice of MPVs from a single manufacturer. With its dynamic styling, cutting-edge technology, and light, bright and airy interior the new
C4 Picasso has all the right ingredients to stand out from the five seat MPV crowd.
20 Citroen's exempt from proposed congestion charge
With potential savings of £1696* a year, Citroen owners are set to benefit more than most from the proposed exemption of vehicles in Tax Band B to the London Congestion charge.

Citroen has no fewer than 20 different models in the lowest common Graduated Vehicle Excise Duty Band B (less than 120g/km), including all seven versions of the C1 City car, four C2 and six C3 Supermini models.

Importantly, the Company is also able to boast vehicles from the small family car segment with three versions of the stylish C4 fitted with its innovative new Electronic Gearbox System. Not only does this improve fuel consumption compared to traditional manuals, it actually helps reduce CO2 emissions by up to 4 percent.

Last month, Citroen was named the greenest Car Manufacturer of The Year in the Green Fleet Awards.

Whilst congestion charging is generally thought of as a London only charge, there has been considerable speculation that it could be introduced to other cities in the UK.

Citroen and the new C-Crosser
Citroen has announced first details of its exciting new Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), that is set to add an extra dimension to the French manufacturer's range when it goes on sale in Europe from summer 2007. The versatile Citroen C-Crosser boasts four-wheel drive capability, exceptional levels of space and comfort, as well as an advanced, fuel efficient HDi diesel engine equipped with environmentally-friendly Diesel Particulate Filter System.

Taking its name from the four-wheel drive concept car that Citroen first displayed at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new C-Crosser's elegant proportions (4.64m long, 1.81m wide and 1.73m high including roof bars) and powerfully sculpted design lines envelop sufficient interior space to seat up to seven passengers.

Immediately catching the eye, the C-Crosser's robust good looks are fronted by the dominant chevrons that stretch across the bonnet into the streamlined front headlamps, ensuring that it is instantly recognisable as a Citroen. A multiple-ribbed bonnet, chunky wheel arches, the smart use of chrome detailing and the sleek window lines further enhance the C-Crosser's dynamic styling.

The C-Crosser will be available with Citroen's impressive, new generation 156bhp 2.2HDi engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Capable of producing 380Nm of torque this dieselpowerplant also boasts impressive green credentials, offering low fuel consumption, the ability to run on 30% bio-diesel and a Diesel Particulate Filter System that reduces particle emissions to virtually immeasurable levels.

With the C-Crosser's integral transmission, drivers have a choice of three settings, dependent on road conditions and driving style: two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive and a lock setting designed for low-grip conditions. Ensuring an optimum blend of comfort, road holding and off-road capability, Citroen's new SUV is equipped with MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension, combined with 18-inch Michelin tyres for added grip.

Occupants will also benefit from the easily reconfigured second and third row of seats, which can be folded away quickly and effortlessly to provide a flat floor and vast load space. The rear two seats can be completely hidden away under the floor, while the second row of seating, which slides to offer greater leg room or boot space, features a 60:40 split/fold function that is operated via electric controls in the boot.

Making it easier to load bulky objects, the tailgate opens in two sections. The lower part is able to support up to 200kg, allowing it to double up as an al fresco seat, perfect for owners with an SUV lifestyle based around a love of outdoor pursuits.

The new C-Crosser rounds off Citroen's range of mid- and top-end cars, ensuring there is a vehicle to suit all needs, whether it be for an SUV, a versatile people carrier (C4 Picasso or C8), an executive saloon (C6) or a comfortable family car (C4 or C5). The Xsara Picasso and Berlingo Multispace MPVs dominate their respective sectors, while at the same time the Company is continuing to pursue its strategy of offering a range of individual yet complementary small cars, with the C1, C2, C3 and C3 Pluriel.
Skates on for Citroen's new C4 models
With increasing numbers of UK car buyers taking the C4 to their hearts, Citroen is introducing an automatic gearbox to the diesel range for the first time, while buyers can get up to £600 worth of extra gear, at no extra cost, with the special edition C4 Cool.

Stylish, technologically advanced and one of the safest cars around, the C4 has seen its sales grow during 2006, at a time when overall sales in the small family car sector are down. The launch of the new C4 2.0HDi automatic and the new C4 Cool - inspired by Citroen's successful 'ice skater robot' TV advert - are set to boost this popularity.

Citroen's six speed automatic gearbox is now mated to its 138hp 2.0HDi diesel engine, complete with acclaimed Diesel Particulate Filter System. Returning a healthy 43mpg on the combined cycle, the new automatic is available on both VTR+ and Exclusive hatchbacks, with cashback-inclusive prices starting from £16,540.

The C4 Cool special edition offers superb value for money. In addition to the standard kit of the VTR/SX models, on which it is based, it adds automatic dual zone air conditioning, automatic wipers and automatic headlamps, to help provide optimum cabin climate and visibility throughout the year. A smart new grey upholstery and, on 5-door models, electric rear windows complete the package.

Yet despite all this extra equipment, the new special editions are still priced identically to the VTR and SX models. Available in both 3-door coupe and 5-door hatchback bodystyles, and with either 110hp 1.6i 16V petrol or 92hp 1.6HDi engines, C4 Cool post-cashback prices start at £12,095 for the 1.6i 16V coupe.
Citroen tops the charts in August
In the run up to the new registration change, more private motorists chose Citroen cars than any other marque in August. This took the French car brand to the number one position in the retail car market in the UK, according to figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Key to its August sales success was its innovative guaranteed part exchange scheme, that has now seen over 3,500 motorists trade in old cars against new Citroen models. Owners of cars as varied as a Morris Minor, Triumph Spitfire and even a London cab have taken advantage of the offer and will now be driving safer, better equipped and massively more environmentally friendly new Citroen cars.

In fact the scheme has proved so successful that Citroen bosses have decided to extend the guaranteed part exchange programme through September. The scheme means drivers can trade in any old, roadworthy car and claim up to £1,000 on top of other offers that include cashbacks of up to £3,645 or one year's free insurance or even 0% finance over four years on some models.

With these offers, the award winning and stylish C4 is available from £9,295; the UK's most popular retail compact MPV, the Xsara Picasso, from £8,995; the UK's most popular budget MPV, the Berlingo Multispace, from £7,595; the eye-catching C3 from £6,790; the sporty-looking C2 from £6,490 and the cute and loveable C1 from just £5,995.
Citroen revamps its C8 MPV diesel line-up
Citroen has revamped the diesel line-up of its C8 people carrier with the introduction of two new economical and Euro IV compliant diesel engines. With over 80% of all C8s currently sold in the UK equipped with diesel powerplants, these new models are set to further increase the desirability of this popular and versatile large MPV.

Combining frugal fuel economy with sub-190g/km CO2 emissions, these great value models come with six-speed manual gearboxes for a relaxed and refined driving experience, and will prove popular with both private buyers and company car owners, who will appreciate the lower taxation. Environmentally-conscious owners will be especially pleased to note that both versions can also run on up to 30% bio-diesel.

The range-topping 136hp 2.0HDi 16V unit returns 40mpg on the combined cycle, CO2 emissions of 188g/km and is fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter System that reduces particle emissions to virtually immeasurable levels. With a maximum speed of 118mph and up to 236 lb.ft of torque on tap, the new engine replaces the 130hp 2.2HDi unit.

Drivers of 120hp 2.0HDi 16V models will be able to stretch a gallon of fuel even further - 41mpg on the combined cycle - with CO2 emissions of just 182 g/km. This new derivative is capable of up to 112mph and can deliver 221 lb.ft of torque at just 2,000rpm. The current 110hp 2.0HDi 16V version will continue as an automatic only.

Stylish, spacious and extremely versatile, the C8 people carrier can seat up to eight passengers in comfort thanks to three flexible rows of seating - with the second and third row of seats removed, it offers a cavernous 3,000 litres of load space.

Highly specified, most models come with remote control operated sliding side doors, automatic digital tri-zone air conditioning, an alarm and automatic wipers and headlamps as standard. The first large MPV to receive a 5 star Euro NCAP rating for occupant protection, the C8's long list of safety equipment includes six airbags, ABS with EBD and EBA, and ESP with traction control.

Prices for the new diesel models start at £18,000 for the 120hp 2.0HDi 16V LX and £20,025 for the 136hp 2.0HDi 16V SX, including the August offer of £3,000 cashback. Most models also currently attract a choice of either 0% or low-cost finance.
Citroen introduces new Xsara Picasso VTX
Citroen's popular Xsara Picasso Compact MPV is getting a major boost with the launch of three new VTX models, specifically designed to appeal to company car drivers looking for a practical and very well equipped car at an extremely competitive price.

Representing superb value for money - Recommended Retail Prices start at just £11,250 - the new Xsara Picasso VTX range also allows company car drivers and businesses
to further gain from reduced Benefit in Kind and employers' National Insurance Contribution charges.

Whilst featuring list prices that are several thousand pounds less than similarly specified key rivals, the new VTX models actually add hundreds of pounds worth of extra equipment as standard, including metallic paint, 15 alloys, cruise control, electric rear windows and a smart new interior trim, compared to the Desire versions on which they are based.

The already high levels of standard equipment include driver, front passenger and lateral airbags, air conditioning, ABS with EBD, remote central locking, front folding armrests, electric heated door mirrors, RDS stereo radio/CD player with steering mounted controls and Citroen's unique Modubox folding trolley.

With five comfortable seats and a commanding driving position, the roomy and practical Xsara Picasso VTX is perfect for stress-free journeys. It offers the benefit of one of the largest boots in the class, and this load space can be considerably expanded thanks to the individual, easily removable rear seats.

The three new Xsara Picasso VTX models available include a 1.6i 16V petrol version priced at £11,250, a 92hp 1.6HDi diesel at £11,650 and a 2.0i 16V Automatic for £13,150. With such incredibly keen pricing, these models will not be available with any additional offers or discounts.

Citroen's Xsara Picasso VTX - Offering real savings for Fleets and User-choosers

Among the many benefits of the Xsara Picasso VTX for user-chooser company car drivers is a significant reduction in Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) taxation, thanks to the model's low RRP and CO2 emissions - just 135g/km for the 1.6HDi VTX. For a 40% tax paying company car driver this equates to a BIK reduction of more than £700 over a three year period compared to the equivalent Desire model.

In addition, the reduction in the VTX's BIK value means that employer's National Insurance Contribution (NIC) payments are reduced by up to £228 per car over three years. For a company running 50 Xsara Picasso VTXs, this could mean a considerable saving of up to £11,400 over three years.

The Xsara Picasso is one of Citroen's best-ever sellers, with over 220,000 sold in the UK alone. It appeals to a broad range of customers, including private buyers, user-chooser company car drivers, essential business users and emergency services, for example being specified for ambulance, Police and Military Police applications.

Ian Hughes, Citroen's head of UK corporate sales, comments, The well-equipped Xsara Picasso VTX models really are exceptional value for money. They will particularly appeal to business buyers, with company car drivers specifying the VTX seeing a significant reduction in their BIK payments and their employers also making worthwhile savings.
Government figures show Citroen's unbeatable economy
The latest version of the Official Government New car fuel consumption and emission figures booklet clearly proves Citroen's unbeatable fuel economy credentials, with the Company posting three of the top four positions in the chart of Britain's lowest CO 2 and most frugal diesel models.

In confirming its credentials as a producer of low cost, environmentally friendly small cars, the Citroen C1, C2 and C3 all achieved over 65 mpg in the official combined consumption cycle tests.

The new Government booklet, compiled by the Vehicle Certification Authority, also illustrates the cost of fuel required to cover 12,000 miles (the assumed annual mileage). Here, no car beats the Citroen C1, with a running figure of £744, followed closely by the C2 and C3 at just £781.

The ultra-economical city and supermini models are complemented in the Citroen range by a number of other green vehicle technologies, including the Company's unique Stop & Start system, now available on both C2 and C3, its frugal Common Rail HDi engines and the Diesel Particulate Filter System, which reduces particulate emissions to so low a level as to be virtually unmeasurable.

The latest Government results further underline Citroen's fundamental commitment to developing economical, efficient and environmentally sound vehicles for the motorist.
Loeb conquers Corsica
Citroen World Rally front runner, Sebastien Loeb, continued his rich vein of form to guide his Xsara home in first place on the testing Rally of Corsica at the weekend.

The victory further extends the Frenchman's stranglehold on the FIA World Rally Championship to 46 Points - 11 ahead of Marcus Gronholm.

The independently run Kronos Citroen WRT also moved clear of its rivals thanks to a podium finish from Loeb's teammate Daniel Sordo - the reigning Junior World Rally Champion.

The young Spaniard produced another great performance behind the wheel of the Xsara. Unflustered by an electrical problem that held him back on Friday, he fought hard to finish third, and secure his second podium in two races.

Commenting on his success Sebastien Loeb, said: The team was faultless and we were able to bring home a victory that was extremely important to us. In Corsica, in front of all our fans, on an event I love, which is the Rallye de France!

Hot on the heels of success in Catalunya last time out, the Citroen Xsara once again proved its dominance on the asphalt. As team manager, Marc Van Dalen explained: Seb remains the king on the asphalt and Dani (Sordo) confirmed what we already knew anyway.

Xevi Pons in the third Citroen Xsara finished in sixth.

Congestion charge busting Citroen C2
Citroen has announced the UK launch of a new, environmentally friendly and fuel efficient C2 Stop & Start model, and to mark this news the Company is effectively offering to pay buyers of all Citroen Stop & Start models one year's London Congestion Charge.

Thanks to its use of innovative Stop & Start technology, which switches the engine off when the car is at standstill, the new C2 Stop & Start offers all the benefits of low CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, in addition to sharp styling and high standards of equipment and practicality.

As an added bonus all Citroen C2 and C3 Stop & Start models ordered and registered during April and May will attract £1,696 cashback, the equivalent of one year's congestion charge as set by Transport For London.

The C2 Stop & Start is available for a Recommended Retail Price of £10,690, which doesn't include the congestion charge busting launch offer. Buyers will also benefit from the reduction in Vehicle Excise Duty for band C cars announced in last week's Budget, as well as a low Group 4 insurance rating.

Offering up to a 15% reduction in fuel consumption in heavy traffic, the frugal C2 Stop & Start is perfect for life in town. The system also returns an impressive 50.4 mpg on the standard combined cycle, making it the most fuel efficient model in the C2 petrol range, whilst CO2 emissions are also reduced by an average of 10%.

The C2 is the latest Citroen to be equipped with cutting-edge Stop & Start technology. When the car comes to a halt, be it in a traffic jam or at a junction, the engine is automatically switched off to help save both fuel and reduce CO2 emissions. In addition, the complete absence of any engine noise when the vehicle is at a standstill contributes to a more relaxed driving experience.

The Stop & Start system turns the engine off as the vehicle comes to a halt and then, almost silently, restarts the engine in just 400 milliseconds the moment the driver takes their foot from the brake pedal, allowing the car to accelerate away as normal.

The secret behind this technology is a reversible alternator that acts as a standard alternator one minute - driven by the engine to charge the battery - but, when required, then acts as a starter motor, driven by the battery to effortlessly re-start the engine. And for those who wish to, the system can be easily deactivated via a button on the dash.

This latest addition to the C2 range is equipped with a new generation SensoDrive automated gearbox, with paddleshift gearchange and automatic function, and a 90hp 1.4i 16V petrol engine. Although based on the SX trim level, it adds around £1,000 worth of extra kit as standard, including rear parking sensors, automatic air conditioning, automatic headlamps and wipers, lateral airbags and electric, heated door mirrors.

This augments an impressive spec sheet that already includes ABS with EBD and EBA, power assisted steering, remote control central locking with deadlocks, an alarm, CD player and independently sliding and folding rear seats. The new model also comes with its own special interior trim and wheel covers and 'chrome' effect exterior door handles.

Managing Director of Citroen UK, Xavier Duchemin, said: Citroen's launch of the C2 Stop & Start reinforces our position at the forefront of technological innovation and protection of the environment. With a congestion charge busting offer, C2 Stop & Start owners can help save both their own money and the environment.
Laminated answer to doubling of 'smash & grab' vehicle crime
Latest Home Office* statistics show that attempted smash and grab vehicle crime has doubled in a decade, leaving motorists feeling more vulnerable than ever to attack.

Windows continue to be the weakest area of a vehicle, accounting for 1 in 2 car crimes*. Yet with approaching 100 break-ins every hour in the UK**, at a cost of £1.4bn annually to the insurance industry***, experts believe high security laminated glass could dramatically reduce the trend.

New research from Citroen has found that 1 in 6 car owners would like to see the unbreakable safety glass fitted as a legal standard within the next 10 years****.

Laminated glass, which is constructed of a polyvinylbutyral (PVB) interlayer sandwiched between two thin glass plies, was first used on windscreens to improve safety in the event of an accident. It is now a legal requirement.

However, until recently laminated glass in side windows was exclusively limited to the luxury end of the car market.

Recently Citroen became the first volume manufacturer to introduce laminated side windows as standard in the small family hatchback sector, on versions of the popular and innovative C4. The French manufacturer now offers the technology on three models - C4, C5 and the new C6.

What Car? magazine has been at the forefront of the drive for laminated side glass to be fitted to more cars, and group editor Steve Fowler commented: The example set
by Citroen is widely applauded. Security glazing is potentially the most significant security development since the introduction of the immobiliser, so it really does need
to be embraced.

Aside from the obvious anti-crime benefits of laminating the side glass, it also makes it less likely that drivers will be thrown from their vehicles during an accident as well as reducing noise inside the car - by around four decibels. Motorists also feel more secure when inside the vehicle, especially given the eightfold increase in traffic light car muggings reported over the past three years.*

Marc Raven, spokesman for Citroen added: The move towards adding laminated windows on more of our models further underlines Citroen's commitment to safety
and security.

Citroen C5 VTX+
Citroen is launching two new C5 VTX+ models, equipped with a fuel efficient 110hp 1.6HDi engine, aimed directly at user-chooser fleet drivers looking to combine comfort, space and a high specification with low taxation.

The Citroen C5 VTX+ is based on the current VTR model, but adds a high-tech NaviDrive satellite navigation and telematics system and metallic paint as standard, all for a low recommended retail price that starts at just £15,095. Company car drivers can also benefit from a major Benefit-In-Kind tax saving of £700*.

Competitor comparisons are instantly favourable. The C5 VTX+ oozes value, with list price savings of between £3,000 and £4,000 compared to similarly specified key rivals.

The advanced, colour-screen NaviDrive system features voice-activation of the telephone/radio/satellite navigation, a function for reading back SMS text messages, 'TA' traffic information and a 6-CD auto-changer. The integrated, hands-free nature of this system, provides the user with added safety and cost benefits.

Brimming with equipment, VTX+ versions of the 5 star Euro NCAP rated C5 offer drivers the benefits of Citroen's ultra-comfortable, self-levelling hydractive suspension, ESP with traction control, ABS with EBD and EBA, automatic digital air conditioning, cruise control with speed limiter, alloy wheels, seven airbags and an alarm.

The C5 VTX+ Hatchback is available at a RRP of £15,095 and the C5 VTX+ Estate for £16,195. Both models are fitted with the refined and torquey 110hp 1.6HDi diesel engine, capable of returning over 50 miles per gallon. Thanks to the incredibly keen pricing neither model will be available with any additional customer offers.

Citroen maintains the momentum
Despite tough market conditions, Citroen continues to grow in popularity, taking over 5% of the UK market in February with sales up by 3% to take the Company into a top six position.

Spearheading the growth has been the stylish and innovative C4, with an impressive 43% rise in sales so far in 2006, whilst the Xsara Picasso, which remains by far the most popular MPV with private buyers, is taking an increased share of its market sector. Citroen has also, once again, achieved a top three position in the van market.

The February results mean that Citroen has sold over 14,000 cars and vans already this year with a 10% increase in its vehicle market share to 5.21%. In the all important retail market, Citro e n took the number 3 position, to become the best selling French brand with a share of 6.61% so far this year.

To maintain the pressure throughout March, Citroen is continuing to offer customers some of the best retail deals available. The wide and attractive range of offers includes, dependent on model, up to £3,650 Cashback, 0% finance, free insurance and free Satellite Navigation.

Citroen sales in the UK grew to over 122,000 last year, up from 103,000 five years earlier and 86,000 a decade ago. On top of this, the Company achieved all time record annual worldwide sales of some 1,400,000 in 2005.

06 - The year of the diesel
With the new 06 number plate cars just about to hit the roads, one thing that seems certain is that diesel models are set to take an increased market share in the UK just as they are now overtaking petrol models across Europe.

The inexorable growth of diesels across Europe, which will almost definitely see them become the preferred choice this year, saw them take over 49% of total car sales in 2005.

In the UK, diesels have also experienced a similarly rapid growth in popularity, with sales almost trebling in just the last five years to almost 900,000 in 2005, when they took 36.8% of UK sales.

And against this backdrop of rapid growth, Citroen is offering a wide range of diesel models, that includes the three most economical and cleanest diesel cars in the UK, with the C1, C2 and C3 all of which achieve better than 65mpg in official tests.

With high fuel prices, buyers are looking for economical cars that are easy on the environment. And with high economy / low CO2 models, clever Stop & Start technology and diesel particulate filters, Citroen is at the forefront of environmental design.

For the 06 models, Citroen is currently offering a wide and attractive range of offers that include up to £3650 Cashback, 0% finance, free insurance and free Satellite Navigation on certain models.
Citroen on show at Geneva
With its fabulously funky two-seater concept car, C-AirPlay, a hybrid C4 HDi demonstration vehicle and a new powerful and torquey 2.2 HDi diesel engine for its C5 range, Citroen is showing a variety of concepts and demonstration vehicles alongside the Company's real world model range at this year's Geneva Motor Show.

Making its debut at a major International Motor Show, the fresh and futuristic C-AirPlay city concept car features a bold, dynamic exterior look, as well as plenty of ultra-modern styling cues inside and out.

See-through 'portholes' in the lower sections of the doors are just the tip of the design iceberg. Inside the car, discreet, touch-sensitive controls for the gears and electric windows are moulded into the single-piece silicone front seat, whilst the eye-catching steering wheel incorporates two spherical driver information displays.

Citroen's environmentally inspired C4 Hybride HDi is a test bed of advanced technology designed to reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions. It features a 1.6 HDi diesel engine coupled to an electric motor plus a particulate filter and Stop & Start technology. The result is a C4 that can stretch a gallon of fuel for a remarkable 84 miles whilst keeping CO2 emissions to just 90 g/km.

Alongside these, Citroen is also unveiling a new 173 bhp 2.2 HDi diesel engine that's been developed between PSA Peugeot Citroen and Ford. Fitted to the C5 hatchback and estate models, this powerful engine will be mated to a six-speed gearbox and will offer plentiful low-down torque for excellent real world performance.

Citroen's strong start to 2006
Citroen has made a very positive start to the New Year in the UK, achieving a 15% jump in market share at a time when the overall car market has dropped by over 13%. These January figures come hot on the heels of all time record annual worldwide sales for the Company in 2005.

Despite tough market conditions and the significant reduction in demand for new cars, Citroen maintained sales of around 7,300 vehicles, boosting its car market share to 4.63%. At the same time, the Company also achieved a top three position in the van market.

Citroen also performed strongly in the vital private buyer market, taking a top five position in the sector thanks to its competitive car line-up and tempting cashback deals.

Whilst the best selling model remained the Xsara Picasso, C4 sales accelerated to pass the C3. At the same time, the Company's sales were split three ways, with small car sales (C1, C2 and C3) virtually equalling the Compact MPV sales (Xsara Picasso), which were similar to those of larger models (Berlingo Multispace, C4, C5 and C8).
Citroen record sales
Tokyo, South America, Australia, France, Germany, UK, Africa... all around the world Citroen, and the award-winning C4 robot, really are dancing in the streets following the announcement of all-time record sales.

Almost 1,400,000 Citroens took to the streets in 2005, from Sydney to Sydenham, making it a best-ever result for the French manufacturer. Helping Citroen increase its share of the ever-competitive European market, the UK contributed 122,000 vehicles to the overall tally, holding steady in the face of a tough local marketplace.

On home soil, the popularity of the Xsara Picasso last year saw over 31,000 models added to a total that now exceeds 200,000 in the UK alone. And in retaining the title of the country's best selling MPV among private buyers, the Xsara Picasso contributed to a rise in Citroen's share of the retail market - helping the Company to outperform the likes of Renault, Honda and Nissan.

In the second half of the year, a big increase in sales of the stylish and innovative C4 saw it take over from the C3, which remains a firm favourite in the 4/5 door supermini sector, as Citroen's second best selling car.

Elsewhere in the world, Citroen sales in the South American countries of Argentina and Brazil rocketed by 48% and 30% respectively, while more Australians and South Africans also chose the Double Chevrons, with registrations up by 25% and 21%. Topping the good news story off, buoyant sales in the dynamic Chinese marketplace resulted in a 34% jump to 103,000 vehicles.
Top UK honours for Citroen's Loeb
Throughout the 2005 international motorsport season, one figure dominated the rallying calendar. Now, even after the end of the World Rally Championship, Citroen's Sebastien Loeb is continuing his remarkable winning run and this week has been honoured by three of the UK's most prestigious magazines in their end-of-year awards.

Loeb, 31, who this year took the World Rally Championship title for the second time in a row, has been named Autosport magazine's International Rally Driver of the Year. In addition, both Top Gear and CAR magazines have just named the flying Frenchman in their 'Men of the Year' lists.

In becoming one of the most successful rally drivers of all time, Loeb rewrote the record books along the way. Driving a Citroen Xsara WRC, he chalked up the highest number of victories in a single season, with 10 from just 16 starts, including a record-breaking six consecutive victories in mid-season, whilst in Corsica he became the very first man in history to win every single stage of a WRC event.

By the end of the season, the Citroen superstar had put a whopping 56 points between him and the second placed driver, whilst at the same time helping Citroen to its third successive Manufacturer's Title.

Proving that he can outgun rival drivers from other disciplines, Sebastien Loeb also won the recent 'Race of Champions', where he beat both Colin McRae and multiple Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen.

With Citroen taking a sabbatical in 2006, Sebastien Loeb will be looking to replicate his success by driving a Xsara WRC as a privateer, before returning to race for Citroen in the brand new C4 WRC in 2007.
Tune into Citroen's C-Airplay concept car
Citroen is set to surprise the world and premiere its brand new, funky-looking two-seater concept car, the C-AirPlay, at this year's Bologna Motor Show (1-11 December).

Masterminded by Citroen's award-winning British car designer, Mark Lloyd, this fresh and futuristic urban run-around features a bold, dynamic exterior look, as well as plenty of ultra-modern styling cues.

Inside and out the C-AirPlay introduces striking design touches, including see-through 'portholes' in the lower sections of the doors to increase the sensation of speed. Discreet, touch-sensitive controls for the gears, electric windows and rearview mirror are moulded into the single-piece silicone front seat, whilst the eye-catching steering wheel incorporates two spherical driver information displays.

Even the colour scheme is ultra modern with the iridescent white bodywork contrasting neatly with the bright red cabin. But it's the massive expanse of glass that creates the bright and airy interior that helps give rise to the C-AirPlay's name.

Shorter than the Citroen C2, the C-AirPlay is powered by a 110hp petrol engine while, thanks to the SensoDrive gearbox, gearchanges can be made via the steering wheel-mounted paddles. Fittingly, for a futuristic interpretation of a supermini, this versatile concept car also features fuel-saving, emission-reducing Stop & Start technology.

World first for Citroen C6
The new Citroen C6 executive saloon has today become the very first car in the world to be awarded a maximum 4 star Euro NCAP pedestrian safety rating, as well as a maximum 5 stars for occupant protection, making it arguably the safest car on the road.

Today's decision by Euro NCAP to announce the highest combination of pedestrian, occupant and child (4 stars) protection for the Citroen C6 is largely thanks to the debut of a life-saving Active Bonnet system.

During an accident, the lack of space between the bonnet and the engine increases the likelihood of a serious head injury for the pedestrian. In the C6, intelligent software automatically raises the bonnet by 65mm in the event of an accident to provide previously unavailable impact absorbing space. The whole process takes less than 0.04 second.

The Active Bonnet is just one part of an exceptional safety package, which also offers nine airbags, active head restraints and ESP with traction control as standard. Further safety features include a Head-Up Display, allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road at all times, a Lane Departure Warning System and xenon directional headlamps.

This Euro NCAP 'first' for the C6 is the latest in a whole stream of major safety advancements for Citroen. The C2 and C3 were among the very highest scoring cars in their class when tested and the C4 was one of the first two cars ever to achieve 3 stars for pedestrian safety. The Citroen C5 is the highest scoring car in its sector, boasting an unbeaten 36 out of 37 safety points, whilst the C8 was the first MPV to achieve a 5 star occupant protection rating.

Managing Director of Citroen UK Ltd, Xavier Duchemin, said: These excellent results for the stunning new C6 further underline our commitment to safety - a fundamental value which is playing an increasingly important role in today's Citroens.
First public showing of Citroen C6
One of the most beautiful cars yet produced by Citroen, the C6 oozes style and elegance and will be crammed with the latest technological features and safety kit when it goes on sale over here early next year.

The flagship of Citroen's range can be seen up close in the MPH car gallery, alongside the sporty Citroen C4 VTS Coupe and models from the likes of Porsche, Aston Martin and Jaguar. It will also be making a special appearance in the MPH Theatre where Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and Tiff Needell will introduce the live action.

For a completely different view of the motoring world, the awesome £108,000 SQ Plus modified Citroen C2, as featured on the likes of BBC Top Gear and Channel 5's Fifth Gear, will be on display in the MPH Studio area.
